Game content

In the game village romance , the player builds a landscape by placing hexagonal tiles next to each other. The game mechanics are similar to the analog placement game Carcassonne .The player has a limited number of random cards that he has to put together. Each of the cards symbolizes one or more types of terrain such as “village”, “forest” or “river”. The player draws the tiles from a pile and has to rotate them and place them next to one another as closely as possible. The player receives points and additional tiles by placing as many tiles with matching edges as possible next to one another. He is also given regular tasks such as building a village of a certain size or a river of a certain length. Upon successful completion, these are rewarded with additional tiles. The game ends as soon as the player has placed all available tiles.

reception

Village romance was received positively in the press. Der Spiegel recommends village romance for "fans of development games who like to indulge in the idyll of lush landscapes and picturesque villages without stressing out". In the newspaper Die Zeit , Henrik Oerding praises the game and writes that the success of the game is based on the "quasi Zen Buddhist calm" it exudes. For the PC Games , Matthias Dammes expressed himself more cautiously: "Maybe not a long-runner, but a chic student project." Michael Graf from GameStaron the other hand, praised the game: “Looks like the little brother of Siedler von Catan , but it's a captivating puzzle game.”  The NRW players' guide judges: “The low entry barriers, the board game aesthetics and the idyllic atmosphere make the title for a broad target group, regardless of age and gender, appealing and interesting. "

“The pretty watercolor graphics and the subtle audio backdrop provide pure 'village romance'. [...] Toukana created the perfect time waster out of nowhere as a change from the stressful everyday life. "
